►Brief Introduction

Electrodes can only be used under the direct guidance of a professionally qualified doctor or nursing staff. See hospital nursing standards. ► Electrode Application
Proper electrode application helps to maximize ECG signal quality. Consider the following procedure when applying the electrode next.
Where possible and appropriate, explain to the patient the procedure for applying the electrodes to reduce anxiety and increase relaxation.
Before applying the electrodes for patient comfort, attach a lead wire to each electrode.
For 3 and 5 leads, place the electrodes as shown in figures 2 and 3. For 10 leads, place the electrodes in flat and thick parts of the arms and legs, avoiding bone parts and major muscles if possible.
This minimizes artifacts related to muscle and movement and maximizes ECG signal strength.
Apply the electrode by pressing the entire end of the electrode. Avoid pressing the center of the electrode directly. Gel may spread and create air pockets that cause noise.
Note: if you are using multifunctional electrode defibrillator pads, you may need to reposition the ECG electrodes so that the pads can be positioned correctly to facilitate pacing or defibrillation therapy.
